3/12/1992	A devastating wave of car-bomb explosions killed an estimated 300 people and injured hundreds more today in the large western Indian port city of Bombay. The first blast ripped through the city's stock exchange building, and minutes later a dozen slightly less powerful explosions rocked the bustling city center.The bomb attacks appeared to have been part of a carefully planned operation.The devices were clearly meant to cause maximum loss of life and damage to property.
1/27/1931	Mahatma Gandhi was released from jail, ending eight months of imprisonment for his campaign of civil disobedience against British rule. To avoid demonstrations, Gandhi was released late in the evening from the Yerovda jail and put on a night train to Bombay. There was hope in British circles that the release of Gandhi would end the strife and lead to discussions of dominion status. Gandhi made clear, however, that he would persist in his civil disobedience campaign.

10/3/1978	Dr. Subhas Mukhopadhyay claimed the credit of India's first and the birth of world's second test-tube baby Durga Agrawal, who was born in Belle Vue Nursing Home in Calcutta.
5/18/1973	A powerful underground explosion rocked India's desert of Rajasthan today, making India the sixth nation in history to set off a nuclear device. The blast, which took place at a depth of 330 feet, was in the range of 10-15 kilotons, smaller than the bomb exploded by the US at Nagasaki in World War II. India is signatory to the 1963 test ban treaty, and thus was prohibited from exploding the device on land or in the air. Prime Minister Indira Gandhi claimed the purpose of the test was peaceful and said 'such explosions may have their use in mining operations'.
4/1/1933	Indian Air Force was established at Drigh Road in Karachi (now in Pakistan). Subroto Mukherjee and four other officers were inducted as pilots when the first Indian Air Force Squadron was formed. The first aircraft flight joined the Indian Air Force, at that time it possessed a strength of six RAF-trained officers and 19 Havai Sepoys (literally, air soldiers); its aircraft inventory comprised four Westland Wapiti II. A army co-operation biplaned at Drigh Road as the ""A"" Flight nucleus of the planned No.1 (Army Co-operation) Squadron.
