11/28/1890 Mahatma Jyotirao Govindrao Phule died. He led a selfless life devoted to the upliftment of the lower classes of the Hindu society. He also started school for girls and for downtroddens and untouchables. He was assissted in education field by his wide Savitri Bai.
11/28/1945 Australia Services draw second Victory Test Cricket vs India at Calcutta.
11/28/1956 Chou En- lai, Chinese Prime Minister, came to India.
11/28/1962 K. C. Dey, well-known famous blind singer of Bengal, died.
11/28/1967 Pandurang Mahadev Bapat ""Senapati Bapat"", revolutionary and social reformer, passed away at the age of 89. He led the famous ""Mulshi Satyagraha"" and played a significant role in the struggle for Samyukta Maharashtra and took part in Goa liberation movement.

05/02/195340 persons were reported losing their lives today in the first crash of a jet airliner in commercial service. The jetliner, a British-built Comet, plunged to earth in a violent storm just a few minutes after taking off from Calcutta. It was carrying a party of rubber and tin operators from Malaya to England. There were no survivors. Two Comets have crashed before, one last October and one in March, but neither was carrying passengers.

05/19/1904Jamshedji Nasarvanji Tata, famous industrialist and father of modern technology, passed away at Nauheim, Hesse-Nassau, France. He commenced cotton mills in Bombay and Nagpur and founded the Tata Iron and Steel Company, which is one of the largest integrated steel mills in the world.
02/14/1924Ikramullah (Ikram Sagri) Khan, famous Hindi poet, was born at Rehli in Madhya Pradesh.

12/31/1984Rajiv Gandhi was sworn is as the 6th Prime Minister of India. He succeeded his mother Indira Gandhi. He became the Prime Minister of India for a second time and first time after elections.
