Rao government defeats the no-confidence motion by 265-251 votes. Seven of the JD (A) vote with government as JD (A) and AIADMK decide to vote for no-confidence motion.

3/3/1982Firaq Gorakhpuri ""Raghupati Sahay"", great writer, nationalist and who revolutionised Urdu poetry, died.
10/4/1999Kerala High Court orders Election Commission to booth-wise counting. The EC is likely to move the Supreme Court against this order.
2/4/1934Madhusudan Das ""Utkal Gourab"", passed away. He was described as a great Indian patriot, who wore himself out is giving shape and reality to various nation-building schemes. He wrote a number of articles and poems both in Oriya, English and Bengali to fill people with enthusiasm and patriotism. He was the first non-official Vice Chairman and then Chairman of Cuttack District Board.
5/10/1979Indy Khabra, Soccer(Football) player, was born.
1/27/1931Mahatma Gandhi was released from jail, ending eight months of imprisonment for his campaign of civil disobedience against British rule. To avoid demonstrations, Gandhi was released late in the evening from the Yerovda jail and put on a night train to Bombay. There was hope in British circles that the release of Gandhi would end the strife and lead to discussions of dominion status. Gandhi made clear, however, that he would persist in his civil disobedience campaign.
