Indira (Pridarshani) Gandhi, the first Indian Lady Prime Minister, was born at Allahabad. She was the only child of Jawharlal Nehru and took active participation in freedom fight by forming ""Vanar Sena"" (a team of young detectives). She lead India in a successful war against Pakistan to seperate East and West Pakistans and establish the nation of Banglades

12/16/1971	Bangladesh was formed. President Yahya Khan of Pakistan changed his position dramatically and announced he would accept a ceasefire with India. After his forces in East Pakistan surrendered unconditionally, Yahya Khan vowed to keep fighting in the West against his political enemy. His reversal today undermines his administration, and there are growing indications he will step down as head of the military government. Yahya has already been criticized for his brutal repression of the Bengali separatist movement, which has renamed East Pakistan as Bangladesh. It appears that the separatists may actually benefit from the fighting, because India has managed to defeat most of Yahya's military forces in East Pakistan.

2/18/1899	Jainarain Vyas, leader, freedom fighter and social reformer, was born at Jodhpur, Rajasthan. He played a leading role in creating united Rajasthan by integration of various states of Rajputana. He was the first Chief Minister of Rajasthan from 1951 to 1954.
11/7/1950	King Tribhubana Bir Bikram of Nepal flees palace for refuge in Indian Embassy at Kathmandu.
4/30/1958	Shiekh Abdulla taken into custody.
