2/1/1901Six language penel were started on the Rs. five dinomination. These notes were single sided and the back side could be used for accounting purposes. The six languages were Urdu, Bengali, Telugu, Kaithi, Kannada and Tamil. The paper used for printing was white hand made and moulded.
6/8/1929Ventappa Musandra Muddiah, cricketer (Indian off-spinner in 2 Tests 1959-61), was born in Bangalore.
11/27/1984Percy Norris, British Deputy High Commissioner in Bombay, assassinated in Bombay.
8/7/1982Krishnakanta Radhakant Handique, linguist, educationist, Sanskrit scholar, principal of J.B. College and Padma Bhushan awardee, passed away. He also authored the learned works 'Naisadhacarita', 'Yasastilaka and Indian Culture' etc. His original treatise written in Sanskrit by Somaveda in the 10th century is an encyclopedic work dealing with Jainism and Indian thoughts and culture.
