Topic : What should Western guests wear to a wedding in Southern India?
Dennis S. 7/17/2009 Member of SeattleIndian.com City: Seattle	Ive been invited to attend a wedding in Coimbatore in early September. Im traveling and attending with a female friend who knows the groom well. I do not. Im an American male in my 40s. I am excited and honored to be invited and want to make sure to be respectful of the family and do my best to be a good guest.What should or does a male guest wear to a wedding in Southern India? Is it acceptable for a Western guest to wear traditional attire or would that be considered disrespectful? If so, I would be grateful for suggestions about what would be appropriate. Sudha V. 7/21/2009 Member of SeattleIndian.com City: Bellevue	Hello, For the wedding try Silk dhothi and a good cream/white shirt (you might need extra effort keeping it clean :-) ) - people will love it and occationally make fun calling you the Groom :-) - this would cost about 50 to 200$ If you have good south indian friend you can borrow it from them - if you are attending the reception you can go in a formal/suit (if weather permits - usually the Groom gets it as punishment to stand for hours in Suit.) Be casual and people there are very nice and polite.Go enjoy your trip and steal the show.
