Thiruvananthapuram, April 2 (IANS) It was the wailing and crying by a lady who came from Dubai that she was being ostracised by locals even after completing her isolation time, seems to have spurred a TV anchor who intervened. The timely intervention appears to have saved precious lives.

The lady living in Pothencode, in the capital city outskirts appeared live on Mathrubhumi TV channel and was crying that she has no other option but to commit suicide along with her autistic son and her mother.

"I came from Dubai and have now completed my prescribed isolation period, but we are now being shooed away by neighbours, shopkeepers. We have nothing to eat and we live in a rented house. Each time I venture out to buy some things, am being chased away. We now have nothing left and we are going to commit suicide, as we feel that's better than living like this," wailed the lady, who returned from Dubai.

But a considerate TV anchor Smrithi who was speaking to her live on the hourly news bulletin assured her of timely help and asking her to calm down and immediately connected to Thiruvananthapuram Mayor K. Sreekumar.

Soon Sreekumar and the wailing lady spoke to one another and the Mayor assured her, "you please cool down and I as the Mayor assure you, you will have no issues and all aspects will be taken care," said the Mayor.

Reacting to the incident, State Devasom Minister Kadakampally Surendran who hails from the state capital said that he will also ensure that the families issues are taken care.

Pothencode was in the news recently, when the second death in the state was recorded two days back and since then, the mofussil town came under heavy lockdown, making even the otherwise tough lockdown life, even tougher.
