Meditation---Roots are eastern yet getting more popular in West.

Did you come across the recent news about Hollywood celebrity couple Brad Pitt and Angeline Jolie getting married as per Hindu style in India. The news is not just about getting them married in India but it also reveals some very interesting fact that how meditation played a key role in bringing peace and harmony into the jet-set lives of Angelina Jolie and Bradd Pitt and transformed their relationship . So you see even though the roots of meditation are Eastern, yet meditation is becoming increasingly popular among the westerners. While we from India are moving away from meditation, more westerners are seeking comfort in these age old techniques for solace and now to even save a relationship.

I have heard in my friends and acquintance circle about some of the common reasons for why they don't want to try meditating. Many of us hold wrong notions about meditation in our society like meditation is only for those who want to discover their true self and get enlightened. We think that young, busy and dynamic people don't need to and have no time to do meditation as they need to take care of their responsiblities and work hard towards achieving what they are really striving for. Meditation should be practiced when you grow old as you have fewer things to take care of. Meditation is something very complicated and hard to do . It is quite boring and requires lot of effort and patience. Everyone cannot do it.

Do you know even if one person in the family does meditation, it helps the whole family--kids and everyone in the family? Parents who meditate, their kids can focus better and are very happy and easy going kids. Meditation does complete servicing of your mind which is equally important as the servicing of your body. As we all know that happiness resides only in healthy mind and healthy body so if we want to be happy and healthy, we got to do meditation and need to incorporate it in our daily routine. If you do meditation everyday, the smile automatically comes and stays on your face the whole day. You become much more dynamic and creative in your day to day tasks. The routine work also becomes enjoyable. In simple terms if we are constantly exercising our body without any break, what would happen? We will end up getting completely exhausted and our efficiency will go down. Same is true for our minds. Our minds are incessantly thinking, planning and worrying - even when we are not doing any activity. So what about if we can give our incessant minds some time to rest and chill-out so that we can regain renewed mental vitality. One way to accomplish that is through meditation. During Meditation, one goes through a state of deep relaxation, while his mind's awareness level is increased.

Meditation is infact very simple, natural and effortless. It is very profound but yet not complicated. Meditation is so simple that even kids can easily do it. If we want our children to feel more relaxed, focused and be more creative, give them more silence and less stimulation. According to recent research conducted on meditating children with ADHD, meditation produces significant benefits. Scientific studies have also revealed that meditation does, in fact, benefit the human body as well as the mind. In one study, college students were used to see if meditation helped with memory. As it turned out, it did, and the results were overwhelming. After a 40-day meditation, memory was up four times in testing over a control group who did not meditate. Similar studies have been done since 1977 and they all show results that prove that by meditating, you can improve your mental sharpness significantly.

Greater responsibilities and ambitions you have, greater is the need for you to meditate. It is very easy to lose touch with the rhythm of our souls in today's fast paced life and competing world. If you have nothing to do, you may not need meditation as much. The busier you are, the lesser time you have, the more desires and ambitions you have - all the more is the need to meditate. Because meditation not only relieves you of stress and strain, it also enhances your abilities, strengthens your nervous system and mind. It brings such a clarity and calmness to your mind that you can clearly prioritize and get things done that need to be done first. It also results in greater creativity and who doesn't want more creativity? We all need it to juggle our daily tasks. Isn't it amazing that meditation is so easy to do yet it does so much for you? With such a huge list of benefits, the question to ask yourself is, "Why am I not meditating yet?"
