Have you ever "watched" your depression? Is it possible to do so? It is, and here are the steps:
Understand your thought processes. Try to identify the reasons for your unhappiness instead of suppressing your thoughts. Refine your thoughts by giving yourself a "pocket affirmation." Implement the solution.
Our thoughts do not eradicate suffering, and even if you try to deny or forget your thoughts, the thought "seed" will not be eradicated. The more that you suppress, the more you will suffer.
How can you "pocket and affirm" your thoughts? If you are a short-tempered person, create a "pocket affirmation" by saying, "The next time I start to lose my temper, I will think twice and give the situation some time before I snap at someone." Then, the next time that you start to lose your temper, your mind will automatically remind you of the more positive behavior.
Here is a personal example. Some time ago, I was having problems sleeping. If I woke in the middle of the night, my mind started turning over the next day's activities or the experiences of the day behind me. I brought into my mind this pocket affirmation: "Whatever the problem may be, allow me to sleep and let me think it over in the morning." I would go to sleep immediately. Try a pocket affirmation and see how it works for you.
