Hi, My husband has got a transfer to Synopsys, hillsboro, from bangalore. We plan to take a suitable apartment nearby his office for 3 (me, my husband and 1 yr kid). kindly suggest a suitable place with rental fee that would be convenient. Pls advice regarding the required things to carry that is not available there/cheaper in India. I would also like to clarify whether do we need winter clothes now.

Anupama, I am from bangalore too and have been in portland for a few years now. I would suggest you look up apartments "Seneca Village" and "Cortland Village" both of these are very close to the Synopsis office in Hillsboro. There are a lot of indians living here too. These apartments are also very close to the metro train, grocery stores, including a medical store. There are indian stores here and you do not need to carry any food. People normally carry pickles, sarina pudi - but you want to check if it is allowed on airlines.I know it is banned to carry rice and poppy seeds. You do not need any winter clothes until august. You may need a light jacket in the evenings in september,october and a heavy jacket november onwards. You can carry sweaters with you, recommend buying a jacket here.
