July 16, 2012 - The 2012 MetLife South Asian Spelling Bee (www.southasianspellingbee.com)
continued its 11 city tour this past weekend with the Seattle Regional - a new
city added to the roster in 2012.
With a fantastic turnout, the bee attracted some top talent as well as young and
new spellers that competed for the coveted prizes and titles.
"We were excited to bring the Bee to Seattle and look forward to more talent
from the area", said Rahul Walia, Founder - South Asian Spelling Bee.
In Seattle, Suvansh Sanjeev from Bellevue, WA was the regional champ and Anushka
Nair from Lake Oswego, OR was the first runner up while Nikhilesh Kumar from
Gold River, CA was second runner up.
"As the title sponsor of the Spelling Bee for the fourth consecutive year,
MetLife congratulates all of the families who participated in this year''s
event. It was great to have such talented children participate and to share
information with the parents about how they can prepare for the rising cost of
college," said Jeremy Taylor, CFP, Financial Planner, with the Financial
Planning Division, An Office of MetLife, in Bellevue, WA.
The winners received cash prizes of $500, $300 and $200 respectively.
Children up to 14 years of age are eligible to participate and the contest saw
spellers of even 6 years of age compete and make it past a few rounds. In the
Seattle contest we had a 4.5 year old competing as well.
