In an industry that is infamous for its pretensions and pompous attitudes, Nikhil Roy is one actor who appears refreshingly different. For starters, the accomplished actor, who starred in popular serials like Miilee, Bhabhi, Radha Ki Betiyaan Kuchh Kar Dikhayengi, Bhaskar Bharati and several others, prefers not talk too much about himself, letting his performance do it for him. And when he does speak, he disarmingly admits that when he started out in showbiz, he didn't have a clue what he was doing! "As a young lad, all that impressed me about this profession then was the money," he says candidly.
Equally frankly, he also says that as he continued working, the fascination about this profession grew on him. And it is this learning and growth, which, according to Nikhil, makes a good actor. It is hardly surprising that his definition of acting is also unusual. "Acting is all about lying. And to lie convincingly you have to be honest with the lie. If you're not, then your lie is exposed and people can make out that you're only pretending," Nikhil explains.
It is not his outlook on his profession and life in general that is unconventional. The half-American, half-Indian actor even looks unconventional. That is perhaps the reason that he keeps bagging positive as well as negative roles, something that he enjoys the most. Having played diverse roles in numerous episodes of the super hit Aahat and CID on Sony, Nikhil is now set to appear in a full-fledged negative role in Surya, another crime thriller the same channel. "In a negative role, there is a lot of scope for an actor to experiment with everything, from his get up to his body language, dialogue delivery to his expressions. And I am fortunate that I keep getting offers for all kinds of roles, positive and negative," he smiles. Ask him about his dreams and once again, the answer is unusually put: "To be known for doing well whatever I am doing."
