Historical Event on 4/26/1858

Kunwar Singh, revolutionary of Indian mutiny and freedom fighter, passed away. He fought his last battle near Jagdishpur, Bihar on April 23, 1858 and defeated the Britishers but was deeply wounded. He also organised the national rebels.

7/18/1953Riots against increase in streetcar fares continue with demonstrators taking control of parts of Calcutta.
9/28/1827A few mountain battery trains flourished and kept the Indian component alive as part of the Royal artillery. Recently, it has been established that 8 Company Bombay Artillery survived axing and is now 5 (Bombay) Mountain Battery. This day is now celebrated as the Raising Day of the Regiment of Artillery.
1/16/1973Om Prakash Mehra, Air Chief Marshal PVSM, became the Air Officer Commanding, India Command. He was in this office till 31/01/1976.
9/10/1623Shah Jahan entered Rajputana and raided Amber crossing the Tapti. He arrived near the kingdom of Golconda and from there passed on to Orissa which was surrendered to him.
5/6/1967Dr. Zakir Hussain elected President.
4/24/1995K. Karunakaran elected to Rajya Sabha.
4/20/1991Ganesh Sadashiv Bhat, famous Marathi film director and President's Award winner of 1963, passed away.
1/27/1948Gandhiji visits Mehrauli Muslim Fair.
8/14/1980Centre nationalizes Maruti company.
